Mac Adress change after router change

Hello,

I changed my Vodafone DSL line to O2 Cabel and my connection was supposed to be activated on Monday 8th of June. I bought a router from ebay and I typed in my mac Adress on Monday, I called O2 and informed them and I waited for some hours for my router to be activated. It turned out that the router I bought was used by Vodafone and it was a rental. The next day I bought a "clean" router from amazon and directly called O2 to change my mac Adress. They guy from support told me it might take up to 4 hours or maybe even 24h. It's been 4 days since that and I still have no internet!!!I am calling every morning and asking if my mac address have been changed, to which I get the answer that "it has been passed to vodafone and that it should take 4 hours or a day or whatever. Some told me that they put me on priority list (whatever that means), yesterday they told me that it is scheduled to be activated between 16:00 - 20:00. But guess what... Nothing happened!!! I've been waiting for a week now for nothing, weekend is coming and I would like to use the Internet connection that I'm paying for... Please somebody do something about it, this is crazy!

@AlexDrv Do you see a download and upload synchronization during pre-activation? This should be below 1 Mbit/s.

Which specific FRITZ!Box model are you using?

I'm using the fritzbox 6660. I don't know anything about pre-activation download and upload speeds, this is the first time I'm hearing it (I have no connection at all). How would I have that if my modem is basically not activated yet?

@AlexDrv login in the Fritz!box over http://192.168.178.1 and than Internet/Kabelinformationen/Übersicht

You see your download / upload sync. Should about 0.2 - 1 Mbit → box is in preactivation

There is no download and no upload speed, it's basically 0.

@AlexDrv Please call the hotline again and let them know that there is no download/upload sync. A technician needs to come out.

So you are saying that no matter what (activated modem or not) there should be some small indication of Internet?

That was not the case. For some reason my line was activated on 12.06 instead of the initial day on 08.06 and guess what... They activated the line with the wrong mac Adress, that means I might need to wait for another 48 hours for it to be changed.... THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!

Hey @AlexDrv,

I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work right away with your connection. Is it working now? Did the tips from the community members help you?

Greetings,
Flo

Hello,

My situation actually got worse. I'm waiting to schedule an appointment with a technician because the line is still not working.

But during the weekend I looked around the cables inside and outside of the apartment only to find out that my socket is an old TV/Radio socket and there is no Internet line going there! I got furious because I had to find out myself...

The O2 employee that I did sign the contract with assured me (after taking a look at the tv/radio socket) that with a help of an adaptor there should be no issue!

Now after a talk with O2 technical support, it seems that a cable should be laid from the basement HUP to our apartment on ground floor. That's crazy! Why did no technician come before the day of activation to check if there is really a connection to the apartment? I'm not a technician myself to know about that stuff, I had to Google a lot of information on the weekend to find out how things work with the cable Internet!

The tech support employee told me also that my landlord would probably have to bear the costs of such work which makes me look like an idiot because I have made a contract for cable internet without having cable connection in my apartment since I was assured by the O2 employee that my socket is good for cable Internet.

What should I do next?? I'm totally lost and I don't know if my landlord would like to bare the costs of such an upgrade... It makes my look like I'm forcing him to do so. If I knew that there should be a cable connecting my apartment to the central HUP I would have consulted with my landlord first!

@AlexDrv will VDSL works for you? Is a phone TAE socket in your appartment?

I had DSL internet (vodafone) through tae socket but I was extremely unhappy with it (constantly disconnecting) , that's why I decided to switch to cable in the first place. It would be crazy to go back to dsl now as it would mean that I basically switched over my lines to get back to 0.

Hello @AlexDrv,

welcome to our o2 Community 😀

Unfortunately, we do not know in advance whether the cabling within a building extends all the way into the individual apartment. Availability status merely indicates that the building has a cable connection; the internal installation of lines and connection points is the responsibility of the property owner.

It is certainly frustrating for you that issues have arisen because your apartment is apparently not connected—and that this only came to light after activation.

We always recommend clarifying available connection options with the property owner beforehand.

How would you like to proceed now? Is it possible to discuss the matter with your landlord first?

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

Best regards

Giulia

Hello!

Well still, I would say that confirming a good connection by the service provider with a technician would be a better practice before concluding any contract (I know in Greece where I lived they do exactly that, sometimes people just do not know the technology behind the lines).

Your employee took a look at the picture I showed him and told me the plug I have is good enough with the help of an adaptor and I believed him! Based on what you say, he should have said "I'm not sure" and "you need to confirm with the landlord" or whatever but no he was sure it's OK.

Anyway, now I have to wait for my appointment on Friday for the technician to come and confirm everything I noticed. I would expect O2 to cover the costs of installing the cable (I've heard Vodafone does that in some cases). I won't forget that during the first week my connection was installed on 12.06 instead 08.06 and my mac address was changed like a week later only to find out that I have been tricked into thinking that my plug can be used for Internet also with the help of an adapter...

Hello @AlexDrv ,
I can understand that the situation is stressful.
Have you had a chance to speak to your property owner yet?
Kind Regards,
Solveig

Hello,

Like a wrote above, I'm waiting for my scheduled appointment with your technician. I guess after his visit we'll see what's next.
