Hello everyone, 

Does anyone use Fritzbox 6490 Cable for O2 internet service? My home connection is only possible via Cable service and I have the Fritzbox 6490 Cable router myself. I have recently ordered O2 50MBs internet and my activation date is in 3 days. 

I have already provided my MAC address on the platform. Is it possible to use this router instead of buying another one? I see that this router is not listed among the routers that the O2 My Service app supports, so I am not sure if this is compatible with the O2 internet.

The following Artikelnummer are for “any provider”

a problem could be that the 6490 does not meet the requirements from O2, that’s DOCSIS 3.1!

If you have a FRITZ!Box with Artikelnummer 20002781 you could try, if you don’t get a connection buy one of the first 3 FRITZ!Box’s or a 6690.

If you open the configuration page of you FRITZ!Box could you see connection details?

You have not to use the O2 app, that’s not necessary

I still have to wait for the activation date which is on May 28th, 2024 to find out for sure if the router is not compatible with my service.

How much would it cost if I ordered it from O2? I can get one in the second hand market for around 90 euros. Which do you think is a better option?

You could rent from O2 green line, in the picture.

You have to pay 49,99€ one time fee + 9,99€ P&P.

For a 6660 you pay 4,99€/month

For a 6690 8,99€/month

The WLAN of the 6660 is not very good. If you need WLAN choose the 6690.

Yes you could buy a used one. Important watch for the Artikelnummer and choose only a 6690 to 6591 models (see above). Don’t  buy a FRITZ!Box Kabel that is from O2, O2 will not connect this router (with out a rent contract). And I don’t think that you would get a 6xxx0 router for the free market for that money.

The correct Artikelnummer is important, this Numbers are to use with all cable net provider.

If you see a different Artikelnummer but the correct Type 6xxxx than it is a branded router.

This router will not get access to the cable network!

And ask the seller, if he has removed the CM MAC from the old provider.

If the cm-MAC I get bind to a contract, if the contract is still running the CM-MAC can’t be removes. Than the router is useless for U!

@Halmat_33 I see that schluej could already provide you with ample information regarding what you pay when renting a router with us and what to c´heck when getting a used cable router. here it is indeed very important to not have the CM MAC address still registered with a running contract of a provider.

I repeat, you could use the following combinations:

  • FRITZ!Box 6690 Cable with AVM Artikelnummer 20002965
  • FRITZ!Box 6660 Cable with AVM Artikelnummer 20002910
  • FRITZ!Box 6591 Cable with AVM Artikelnummer 20002857
  • FRITZ!Box 6670 Cable with AVM Artikelnummer 20003047

If you have a Artikelnummer that is different, the router will not work!
