Far lower than advertised speeds, looking to upgrade

Hi,

Over the past few week I have been getting some abysmal speeds.  This week has been especially bad where it’s consistently 15mbps to 40mbps.  Usually I have 90 but the DSL speed I’m apparently subscribed to (the L package) is advertised at 250mbps.  Who can I contact to negotiate my contract and make some changes.  This is no longer serviceable for the work I do.

Appreciate any answers.

Did you carry out the test via LAN cable? If not, please switch off the WLAN function of your router and connect exactly one device to the DSL router via LAN cable. This will ensure that you are actually measuring the speed of the DSL connection.

The names of the tariffs have changed over the years. Please read the order confirmation that you received when you signed the contract. It states what service you will receive and at what price.
If you would like to switch to the DSL tariff with up to 250 Mbit/s: This has a basic price of EUR 44.99. See the current price list

The easiest way to change your tariff and extend your contract by 24 months is to call the English-speaking hotline

Please note that for 250 Mbit/s via DSL you need a router that supports VDSL Supervectoring (profile 35b), e.g. Fritzbox 7590AX. The o2 Home tariffs do not include a router in the basic price.

Thanks for responding. Yes, these tests have been through a LAN connection. So you can imagine how poor it is on Wifi. And my natural conclusion is that the packages have changed. It looks like I'm getting a far lower speed for a similar price as the current L.  I’ll try the hotline

Then please report the issue (15-40 Mbit/s via LAN-Cable instead of 100 Mbit/s) by telephone. No fault reports can be submitted via the o2 Community.
I would recommend that you wait until the problem has been fixed before making any contractual changes.

So you pay 44.99 EUR for 100 Mbit/s? Interesting, which tariff should that be?

I’m not sure.  These poor speeds prompted me to investigate and I’m scratching my head.

It looks like my fiance has a mobile+DSL package which brings the total to 98 EUR roughly.  The DSL part of that is the 44.99 EUR charge.  I’ve never seen my DSL speed hit 100mbps.  I thought it was 90mbps.  Is O2 known to throttle speed?

I hope the hotline can help clear things up.

Please read the product information sheet (“Produktinformationsblatt”) for your tariff. You received it when you signed the contract. There you can read the maximum, normal and minimum expected data rates for your DSL tariff.

Please also note the service description as part of the contract:

I am not aware of any o2 DSL tariff with up to 100 Mbit/s and a basic price of EUR 44.99. I therefore assume that you have not read the invoice correctly.

Hello @motleyrue,

welcome to our o2 Community 🙂

Could you check the name of your tariff via your invoice and did you already contact our hotline?

Best Regards,

Gerrit

Just wanted to give an update.  We took care of the tariff issue and signed up for 250 mbps DSL, along with some new sim card packages, at a lower rate.  Which is nice.  But since they flipped on the service I’ve been having the worst LAN speeds I’ve seen.  I’ll call, again, on Monday when the office opens and hope they resolve it this time.

Hello @motleyrue,

that is not so nice that the speed via LAN with your connection is that low. Yes, a good way is to report this with the colleagues in our hotline and have a malfunction investigated.

Please keep us also unpdated here if you like.

Best Regards,

Gerrit
