DSL issues

Good evening, sorry in advance for typing in English. My Internet line is always having Interruptions. The speed fluctuates way too much. I cannot do my work sometimes nor can I have my fun. I contacted o2 months ago and no body fixed anything. It got better for a while and now it is the same story. I cannot even play video games without my Internet randomly dropping from 75mbit to 2mbit . It completely cuts off sometimes for a second or 2. What do i have to do to get someone to fix my issue?

Honestly it has been frustrating. Especially when i see friends overseas having a more stable connection.

More info: my line can get up to 175mbit. I have the 100\40 mbit Tarif. I have a good router and i have set automatic daily resets on it. So no it's not my router.

Hello ​@amar104,

I just checked your connection and couldn't find any problems, such as dropped connections etc. The bandwidth is also displayed as very good and stable.

If you have the option, please test the connection with a different router to see if the issues persist. Please also try replacing the cabling, if possible.

Router  ? Firmware? Powerline ? 

How was the measurement setup? How was everything determined?

Router: Archer VR2100v with latest firmware

measurements have been tested by observation. I've had connection issues then did multiple speed tests and monitored my in and out after having the problems.

I did bufferbloat tests as well and I noticed the max ping to be in the 200s and even higher sometimes even with smart queue management enabled - i did many tests before and made it stable with +1ms max on Download and Upload so there is no reason for anything to randomly change -

I dont know if I can test other things without equipment. I use Ethernet and i usually have only one device connected to my router. I'm not sure what you mean by powerline.

Could it be something with the copper lines outside the house?

So I guess, you have a DSL-Connection, right? You also wrote:

If you so have a DSL-Line, you should not restart your router yourself daily, not even automatically, because then, there is a freaking (for not to write f….) program called ASSIA that will set your downloadspeed down, until it gets stable.

Shut off that automatic resets and let your router be as it is. Don*t even shut off the router and step by step you will get more speed. 

Maybe I am completely wrong here. Sorry for that.

@GTO63 thanks for your reply. I noticed that the memory on a lot of routers is not that good. After a couple of days you might see it getting up to 98% usage for example. Also I have set the reboots to be at like 3am since I would be asleep eitherway. That was my reasoning at least. And yes it is DSL

This is just a router without a modem. The Wi-Fi router is a customer's business and does not interest any providers. ​@amar104

@Anfänger1 the archer is a modem router. It has a modem VDSL/ADSL. Otherwise I wouldn't be replying to you rn.

Please like I pleased you to do let the router be and wait up for at least three days. Now, the speed should have been grown up. If not, please report here.

@GTO63 thanks for your input but that doesnt make any sense. The speed isnt steady to increase in the first place. It might be at max for 30min then something happens to the copper lines or at the DSLAM and my internet starts fluctuating and cutting off for 15min for example. Then it returns to normal for a bit. The problems are way too frequent. I do stream as well so that is connection lost every 30min or so. 


Any DSL Information presented in the router you could post here, the more detailed the better

I'm thinking the SNR margin is maybe low. it goes up a bit more but usually between 6 and 9.


This is a bit thin, information-wise… But your link is below full sync (would be at around 116.7/46.8 Mbps) in Upstream direction it appears that you are already at ceiling, in Downstream direction you are limited by the minimal required SNR-margin (which is 6 dB). That means your link has little reserves against RF disturbances… however without better diagnostics there is little I can recommend other than noting, that if you switched from your nominal 100/40 plan to the nominal 50/20 plan and the sync limit gets adjusted to the around 63/23 typically used, your link would gain some more stability, but since you report dropping from 75 Mbps down to 2 Mbps that might not be enough.

Maybe try to borrow a fritzbox modem router for testing as these offer far better diagnostics than your archer seems to do. If you can do so, holler, and I send you more information what information we would like to see here in the forum.

@pufferueberlauf0 thanks for your reply. The thing is it was not always like this. I some time with no issues at all. Maybe Christmas and new years have to do with it somehow.

I don't have a frizbox but i have other routers. What information do you need exactly. What are you looking for?. I doubt i can get much more info from a router.


I am looking for SNR and bitloading spektra and quiet line noise (QLN) and channel characteristics (Hlog), as well as counters for errors FEC and retransmissions. For lantiq based modems go-dsl is a convenient way to get all/most of the interesting information onto one screen (easy to screenshot). Not sure it will work with the archer though… But essentially I am interested in similarly detailed information  about the DSL link that might allow us figure out whether your issues come from the DSL layer or not.

Here is an example screenshot of g-dsl, with the recommended checkboxes checked...

Hi, thanks for checking. I am getting a fritzbox and different cables soon hopefully - they are being shipped -.

But to make sure we’re looking at the right layer: could you please clarify what exactly was checked on your side?

Did you check DSLAM/DSL port statistics (retrain/resync counters + CRC/ES/SES), or only the PPP session / bandwidth profile?

How many DSL retrains/resyncs are recorded on my line in the last 7 days?

Is DLM active on my line, and did it change anything recently (target SNR / interleaving / stability profile)?

Hello ​@amar104,

there is no DLM active on your line, and no resyncs are visible in the last 7 days apart from the usual 24-hour disconnects, which always occurs around 3 am.

Please let us know if the new router is connected yet.
