If you sign a new DSL contract with o2 you will receive a so-called Welcome Letter with all impotant details of your contract. So here is a short explanation what it is  all about. I used the template because everyone gets the same.

Page 1:

Good afternoon, Mr./Ms. xxx

thank you for your order. We are pleased you chose o2 DSL. Well done - because your contract contains a flatrate for calls to all German networks and fast internet speed.
Your (name of the product) will be provided at the following address:

Your connection includes the following number (s): xxx

The connection is activated on ( date) between  (time neither 8 to 12 am or 12 to 4 pm)
Your presence during this time is necessary because a Deutsche Telekom technician has to do the necessary measurements to activate your connection for O2 DSL.
Please make sure that the name given in the order is identical to the name on the door / doorbell sign. Furthermore the technician needs access to the telephone socket and the telephone distribution boxes in the house.
If the technician is unable to activate the line on the agreed appointment because he doesn’t meet anyone or stands in front of closed doors, we will charge you (EUR 49.99) for the technician's costs . You can avoid this fee by preparing the appointment accordingly.
An early postponement is naturally free of charge. In this case please contact us at least 4 working days before the activation date.
Your connection is available two hours after the complete activation period. Please be prepared of missing the possibility to call or use the internet. If the installation is done you should immediately connect the router. Please make sure to insert the login data to check if everything is working properly. Gladly we assist you concerning technical questions.

Connecting the router
At the day of activation you can use the router. Please keep it turned on to dial into the network automatically.  The router will be shipped just in time to be delivered when the contract starts.
Maybe you already got it. The device is offered during the contract period on rent and remains property of Telefonica Germany.

Using your own router
You will find the necessary access data for setting up your telephone connection at the online customer center "Mein o2" at www.o2.de/mein-o2.
Go "Tariffs & Options"  → select  "Managing contract" item to get  the telephony access data for your router.
Please use the following data to set up internet access:
Username:xxx
Password: xxx
Please note: the password consists of lowercase letters and numbers.

Data transfer rates

According to your o2 my Home xxx product you get up to xxxMbit/s in download and up to xx Mbit/s in
upload.
The speed of a DSL connection essentially depends on the length of the line to your appartment and therefore is not influenced by any DSL provider. You will receive
a minimum data transfer rate of xxx Mbit/s in download and xxx Mbit/s in upload
a maximum data transfer rate of xxx Mbit/s in the download and xxx Mbit/s in the upload
Usually you have a bandwidth of xxx Mbit/s for download and xxx Mbit/s for upload at your connection address

Check the data transfer rate at www.breitbandmessung.de to verify your connection. You can use a
provider-independent tool from BNetzA. Details on the technical implementation of the measurement and
the meaning of the results can be checked at www.breitbandmessung.de/fragen-und-antworten.
Before doing the test, please enter the maximum data of your contract.
