If you decide you extend your contract here are the most important things to know. We have summarized the most important facts for you.

 

Key points to remember

  • Contract renewal is possible after 6 months (18 months remaining).

  • Early extensions do not allow downgrades.

  • Regular extensions (12 months remaining or less) do allow downgrades.

  • If you miss the cancellation deadline, your contract will be extended by one month.

  • Contracts will continue to renew monthly unless cancelled properly.

  • Discounts are usually based on a 24-month term.

  • Flex tariffs run on a monthly basis and can be cancelled at any time, effective the following month.

Q&A

When can I extend my contract?

Contracts with a minimum term of 24 months can usually be extended from the 17th month onwards (8 months before expiry).
If you are eligible for an early extension, this will be shown in your My O2 account. If not, you will be notified once it becomes available.

When can I change to another tariff?

You can change your tariff when you renew your contract — even from one day to the next — via MeinO₂
It is also possible to change your tariff without renewing your contract. For details, please contact customer service or post a question in the community.

What if something is wrong with my contract?

If your contract does not match the offer you selected and you signed it online or by phone, please contact customer service. We will help you find a solution.
Please note the 14-day withdrawal period. After this period, changes may be more difficult, so contact us as soon as possible.

If you extended your contract in an O₂ Shop, please contact that shop directly.

What happens if I do not renew the contract?

If you do not renew or cancel your contract, it will continue on a monthly basis and can be cancelled at any time with one month’s notice.

When does the new contract term start after renewal?

The new 24-month contract term starts on the day of the extension, regardless of the remaining time on your previous contract.

You will receive an SMS confirmation with the new contract details.
You can also view your new contract term at any time in My O2 or in the My O2 app.

When does the tariff change take effect and when will I be charged?

The tariff change usually takes place overnight, but no later than within 48 hours. You will receive an SMS notification.
Your new tariff price applies from the moment of the change, and your old tariff will no longer be charged.

When will my contract be switched?

You can choose when the new tariff should start:

  • Immediately (as early as the next day) or
  • At the start of your next billing period

You can check your billing cycle in your invoice and usage overview.

What fees apply?

All fees are clearly shown in the product summary before you complete the renewal.

Will I receive a new SIM card?

In most cases no new SIM card is required when extending your contract.
If a new SIM is needed, this will be clearly stated in your product summary before you complete the extension.
