Unlock iPhone 5s from USA

Hello!

 

I am currently on holiday in the USA for 2.5 weeks, & I have my iPhone did is on at o2 monthly contract. I want to get an American sim card for 2.5 weeks, but someone told me that I Has might also need to "unlock" my phone before I can put a new sim in it. How can I do this, please help! I'm lost in New York without access to internet & maps! : (

    I haven't actually tried it yet! So I will try get a nano SIM from AT&T here in America, & see if it works!
