is the ping value mostly the standard or does it often dip way over that once a different service in use over the homespot?

The reception does not seem so great; Is it an improvement over the previous model?

Every time another service or device in the homespot is used, the ping goed way up. Especially like Netflix takes a lot of bandwidth. Then its basically impossible to play games.

Supposedly, this is the upgraded homespot model: O2 homespot 2 router.

I asked for this router change, hoping it would improve a bit. But that isn’t the case.

Hmmm, the Speedtest looks normal. I think an antenna wouldn’t bring any changes here.

I think for online games it can help:

• to book a public IP to your contract
• to use Network cable and no WiFi
• or change from Homespot → DSL

I already use a network cable. Can I book this public IP at o2?

Changing to dsl might indeed be solution. However, based on my address I can only get DSL internet up to 10 MBit/s:

The advantage of an outdoor antenna is that you can point it as directly as possible at the transmitter mast and that it is not affected by the building materials of the house or flat, as is the case with indoor antennas. But @Tom_ is the expert here.

possible applications are:
Customer wants Nintendo DS. use as a mobile server; Playstation/Microsoft Network
Server must be accessible from outside
this requires a public IP address
Customer also requires a dynamic DNS service that can make the IP address visible from the outside

I do not use either Nintendo, nor a playstation.

So, in that case, does it still make sense to book a public IP-address?

it is mostly used for cases, in which the shared-IP prohibits the connection to your device.

In case of the mentioned serviced, it is mostly due to the usage of shared IP which results in a NAT 3 classification, making connections to the Services (Sony PSN or example) impossible.

There are other services or games which require some open ports; something you cannot set while using the standard shared-IP. 

You’ve mentioned the following:

Does this mean, that gaming usually works if no other device is active in your network?

If that’s the case, I would not recommend the public-dynamic-IPv4-Adress, since it sounds more like a problem of bandwitdh or some kind, rather than a connection problem to me.

I still face the same issue, I get up to 2000-10.000 ms while playing games in my pc.
 

I booked a public server, which did allow us to play online on the Nintendo Switch for example, but I feel like the internet on my computer has gotten even worse.

Does the ping usually increase even more when changing to a public server? Or should this not affect the ping compared to the private server?

Is there a way to choose per device which server to use? (For example with the Nintendo, I prefer the public server and for my pc I prefer the private one)

Is there really no other way to get more reliable, low ping internet? Are there other Routers for example that work for My Home M? Fritzbox maybe?

Hello @Julvanwa,

to be absolutely honest with you, an internet connection via a cellular network is in most cases the worst possible connection you can chose. 

Since your router shares the possible bandwith in a mobile cell with any other users that are also conbnected, be it either via mobile phone or via a router it is possible that depending on the utilization of this network you will encounter lower bandwith or higher latency.

For online gaming in most cases a fixed line like for example DSL is the best solution, even if the bandwith may not be as high as the possible maximum data rate of the cellular network.

Regarding posisble differences of public or private servers it also depends on how this servers are connected to the internet itself, but it should not result in a ping high in the thousands.

In my opinion we have on the one side more than one device that accesses the internet via the router at the same time what will influence tha bandwith and the latency and in addition to that the cellular etwork itself may also be under some load resulting in even more influence of bandwith and latency.

Even if a fixed line may only have a net speed of about 10MBit/s this speed will always be available for the router, decreasing possible bottlenecks for latency.

I do know that cable internet is by far better and more consistent than the LTE internet.

Is there a way I can try DSL for a while to see if this fixes the problem? Or can I book DSL as well?

Hello @Julvanwa,

we do not offer a DSL trial but you have the possibility to order any contract as a Flex variant with only one month of minimum runtime. Additional activation fees will occour. regarding the cable variant it is possible that the house owner has a contract that limits the access to the cable connection to only one provider, in such case we have no possibility to offer a connection via cable at that given address.

Hello @Julvanwa,

you can use the SIM card in any router that does support it, if you also need the possibility to make calls also, please be aware that the router has to support Voice ofer LTE (VoLTE). Several router are suggested from other users in this thread. :-)
