HomeSpot is slow with good signal

Hello, O2 support in Twitter suggested me to write a post here describing my issues with HomeSpot.

HomeSpot works quite slow for me (approx 8MBit/s download speed). I have never seen the average 50MBit/s with it. Sharing more details about the connection.

Hello @jonnyzzz,

since you are already in contact with us in your other thread I suggest to close this one and keep the discussion in theother thread. This will also help other people who have the same question.

I will close this thread now.

Hi @jonnyzzz,

I understand your worries.

I just checked your connection-possibilities under this link .

As you can see there, we have a disturbance with the 4G-connection. Therefore, I ask you to wait until our technicians have solved the issue.

Thanks a lot for your patience.

Loving greetings,

Tobias

Thanks. The problems seem to be resolved. But the speed is still slow.

Interestingly, the phone with O2 plus SIM card shows better network coverage and is able to reach approx. 25MBit/s. Could that be that HomeSpot SIM or Router lack support of some LTE channels or features?

Hi @jonnyzzz,

you are right there are some differences between the normal LTE-connection and LTE for Homespot.

LTE bands 3, 7 and 20 are supported.

Carrier aggregation is also supported in the following combinations: CA_3-7, CA_3-20 and CA_7-20

But both LTE possibilities should work now at your contact address. Can you confirm that?

I hope that this information is helpful for you.

Loving greetings,

Tobias

Thank you for the insights on the base station features.

How can I get the advanced information on the LTE connection from the HomeSpot router? I do not see more information than in the first screenshot in the thread above.

It is hard to find the specifications for the HomeSpot router online. Do you know what LTE features and channels it supports? I was only found it seems to have LTE Cat 6.

Hi @jonnyzzz,

unfortunately, I do not have more information for you.

You can check the manual . Unfortunately, everything is written in German.

Loving greetings,

Tobias

Thanks. I’ve seen that manual already. Unfortunately, it gives no information on the supported features for the HomeSpot router. It is indeed hard to check (or debug) if the HomeSpot router is well compatible with the base station

Hi @jonnyzzz,

If you like know if you have good homespot-connection at a specific address, just ask us as o2 moderators. :relaxed:

For your contact-address you have a good homespot-connection.

If you like to know the connection for another address, please ask me.

The address is the same as I have in my profile or contract data. Dachstr. 81243, Munchen.

I do have only 10MBit/s or less. In the HomeSpot tarif you state the connection of 50Mbit/s in average.

Here is the fresh results from the O2 iPhone app:

How can we have it fixed?

Hi @jonnyzzz,

thanks for your message.

I understand that you like to have a better internet-connection.

Please be aware of the fact that the internet-connection that you find in our product-leaflet mentioned for your data-tariff is not the average connection, but the maximum connection. This means that the data usage can be often lower than 50 Mbit/s.

At the moment, we cannot offer you any other solution.

Loving greetings,

Tobias

I was referring to the download speed, not upload. And on the desciption of the HomeSpot product on the web-site you have the following text

O2 my Data Spot Unlimited

It is totally clear to me the maximum possible speed from the Ad is not the case. But you clearly specify the expected average (Durchshnitt) speeds. I do not see these.

So instead of expected (and declared on the product specification) 37,5 MBit/s it is only 10 MBit/s or less for me. Looks like there is a room for improvement.

Hi @jonnyzzz,

I understand your disappointment.

But there is nothing that I can do to improve the connection for you.

Tobias

Thanks for your help.

Could you please help me to understand the case better:

  1. Do you say that 10MBit/s download is expected and normal speed for the HomeSpot Unlimited Data contract?
  2. Who else from O2 can help me to get the situation improved (I cannot cancel the contract for the next two years)

Right now it is quite slow once again. Do you see any problems on the base station side? I wonder it is still 5mbit/s

I’m looking forward to know if the problem is being fixed. If not, I’d be happy to cancel my contract with you.

Hi @jonnyzzz,

thanks for your message.

I understand that you are not happy with the data-connection. But for your address Homespot-connection is available, even if it more or less at a low upload- and download-speed.

You already got a reply from our technical department. At the moment we will not change the connection in your area.

I regret that I cannot offer you any solution in this case.

Loving greetings,

Tobias

Yesterdays connection quality

I’d like to cancel my contracts if there is no way to improve the connection quality. How could we proceed with the cancellation of the contracts before the required 2 years?

Hi @jonnyzzz,

as I see in your data, you changed the homespot now to a Vodafone-Homespot.

Does it work better now?

If you have any questions, just contact our English community.

Loving greetings,

Tobias

There was something changed with the network and it started to work faster with the O2 router. I have to reboot the router every day.

I wish I could try the Huawei router, but it does not work with the Homespot SIM. I see the good LTE signal, but internet access seems to be blocked. You may check my other threads for the info. The same router works well with another O2 SIM. Is there probably an IMEI whitelist somewhere on your side for Homespot?

Hello @jonnyzzz,

we’d love to have a look into this. Since there are three different models called “Gigacube” could to tell us the exact model number so we can have a deeper look into this? Or has your question already been answered?

regards,

Lars

Hello @o2_Lars,

could you please refer to the second thread where I post details on my Gigacube router. Someone from your team asked me to connect it once again to the network.

I’m looking forward to some updates, thanks for turning back to me.
