Hi, last August I was contacted by O2 to renew my contract as the previous one had expired and they said I was paying too much for the service. I decided to renew the contract and, at the same time, purchased a new iPhone SE for my wife.
Generally speaking, our bills ranged from 71-94 Euros, so I did not think anything of it, when this continued. However, my wife works in a shop and due to the lockdown was at home over Christmas (and still is). When I got the bill in January it was almost 90 Euros. As she had not been using any additional data, I checked the latest bill. This was when I realised there was an additional mobile number that had been added to the bill. So now we have three mobile numbers and two phones.
I checked through the paperwork and found that the additional SIM card that was sent with my wife’s phone had been activated by O2 without our permission (the SIM has not even been disconnected from the plastic casing, let alone used).
I wrote to O2 about this and they have said that as we did not cancel a contract (that we never asked for) within 14 days, we are stuck with it for the next two years!
Apart from the dreadful customer service, I cannot see how it is legal to send something they did not ask for and then charge them for it. Is there anything that can be done about this?
