Termination of O2 simcard contract


Dear team,

   My customer number is XXXXXXXXXX.

I took this post paid simcard contract and a mobile phone in the O2
shop in Erlangen Arcaden on 22, November, 2022. Before taking the
contract I was not aware of the rules and regulations as I am new to
Germany. Especially the shop owner who did not explain to me any terms
and conditions before signing the contract. Or he did not give
sufficient time to go through the contract before signing. He also did
not specify that I cannot cancel the contract after I sign it. I was
clueless about all these. I cannot understand or speak German as well.
I recognized the bills are huge and decided to cancel the contract the
very next day on 23, November, 2022. But the shop owner assured he
will cancel the mobile phone but not the contract. He was also
impolite about this.

So I called the customer care of O2 and they assured me that the
Nuremberg headquarters will cancel the contract, understanding my
situation. But the Nuremberg headquarters have replied they cannot
cancel it because I have signed it.
Team please understand I have been telling this continuously, I am new
to Germany, I am still a student and I cannot afford such huge bills
now, so please cancel the contract. I was not aware of the terms and
conditions. If I knew about the terms and conditions, I would have not
taken this contract in the first place. I have been under mental
stress for the past few days because of this and regretting being a
customer of O2.

Also I will send back the simcard to Nuremberg Headquarters. I am not using it at all.
I cannot stress it anymore. Please cancel the contract immediately.

Please understand my situation and cancel this contract immediately.

welcome to our community.

When our customer service in Nuremberg declined to end the contract before it expires regularly, the chance is very low to cancel the contract immediately.

Are there maybe friends or family members which need this tariff where you can transfer it?

  Thanks for replying. No none wants to take this contract as of now. I am not using the sim card also from the beginning, I will send it back to the headquarters since I am not using it from day one. The very next day after I took this contract I contacted one of the customer care and he said the headquarters will cancel it, also return the money that was debited once I wrote a letter to them. It has been a month now. I have also changed to a different network a few weeks ago with a prepaid sim card for 10 euros a month. That is what I can afford right now as a student. After so many issues I would request you to terminate this contract now because I cannot handle this stress now. It is better if you cancel it altogether. Please cancel it.

Hello @Malarvizhi ,

unfortunately I’m not able to cancel regular contracts before they expire without any specific reason, especially if the issue was already declined by our customer service in Nuremberg. I’m sorry if an employee in advance promised that the contract will definately cancelled, that’s not the usual process because there will always be a check if this is possible. 🙁

Dear Michi,

   I am sorry as well. I cannot afford this huge bill right now, I am continuously trying to explain my situation that I am very new to Germany and I was not aware of all these rules. Also I don’t speak German. I was not explained any terms and conditions before signing the contract. At least I could have been told if I sign it, I won’t be able to cancel it. Even that was not told to me. So I had to cancel the direct debit of you from my bank account. Please try to understand. I don’t want to pay for something I cannot afford and something I am not using. I will return the sim card as it is unused and untouched. 

Also after so many times of me explaining to you that I am just a student and cannot afford this bill right now, the O2 shop owner did not explain me any details of contract, did not treat me very well the next day. Its just too much of a mental stress for me. After all these stress for me I prefer not to be a customer of O2. I value my peace. Please try to understand and please cancel the contract. Its a very genuine request.

Hello @Malarvizhi,

I’m not able to cancel to cancel signed contracts. Do you maybe know some friends who can speak german and can talk to one of my colleagues at the hotline? If yes, we have a special billing department which can help you with open invoices.

Please don’t send the sim card back, without the sim card you cannot access your account or receive SMS.

Dear Michi,

   I have spoken to the English Hotline by myself several times. They have said to contact the Nuremberg Headquarters. Today I received an email from Nuremberg Headquarters. Let me see if they are offering any probable solution. Sim card anyway it is untouched, I have not used it at all. I have changed to another network a few weeks ago because of all these confusions. My number in the bank account is also changed. I have never used the O2 postpaid simcard even once for anything. That is why I want to send it back very soon as I will never use it anymore also. Please understand and try to cancel this contract. I cannot afford to pay for this.

Hi @Malarvizhi,

I cannot cancel the contract, but maybe if you write our colleagues in Nuremberg that the card is still untouched, maybe they will decide to cancel it.
