I've been thinking about the o2 HomeSpot and I want to write my thoughts here and hopefully have a debate.

I’m new to O2 I was attracted to O2 as a company because they provided new customers with a good offer for the HomeSpot tariff. I use the data as a backup to my T-com connection which is often going down or the connection speed drops far to low. The connection to the O2 cell is good, The tower was first seen in 2019. Is close to the dorf sports field about 1.5KM as the crow flies. All good !

But.. here come the HomeSpot. I have seen nothing but post after post for months with customer complaints about the HomeSpot. I would guess the complaints takes up 40% for all complaints.

One of the biggest issues is the awful Interface , There is no side menu structure. There is no graphical information regarding Wi-Fi performance and connect devices by SSID name. Why?

Over the past months I have seen massive complaints with the awful Firmware updates causing problems such as making it imposable to change the Wi-Fi Password. Some HomeSpot routers had to be reset. Other routers lost connection. Whilst others would not reconnect after the usual 24  hour network reset.

People are angry and fed up with the quality of the Chinese make HomeSpot.

There are many other complaints still ongoing too many to mention.

I want to ask why O2 is not looking more in to the issues.

Yes I know O2 gives the usual “corporate response “yet your own customer hates the HomerSpot.

I question is the BOSS of O2 looking at  the complaints ?

The HomeSpot issues will slow the growth of new customers, while others will probably cancel the contract.

A good router is the face of O2 that’s  what the customer sees.

Its about time the HomeSpot was put to rest.

Yes It’s the end of the road for the HomeSpot.

Surly O2 knows all too well the Berlin “ Fritzbox”

As you know its a top quality product with excellent  interface.

Top firmware updates and a company who stands right behind the product.

Why no  formal Fritzbox for O2?

All companies likes to provide Chinese routers to its customers because its “ cost effective and good for “profit margins.”

I would ask though if O2 customers  would pay a little more for a fully supported “O2 branded “ FrizBox ?

In conclusion the HomeSpot isn't worth the problems.

Its about time the boss change course and make a deal with Fritz.

I feel Fritz would be accommodating  given the right price.

Attached screen shots for comparison

I look forward for a response from O2 Management team.

@ukguy Very good posting.  As a customer, I am mostly in the broadcast area and have already published two tutorials in english there.  In my opinion, the whole area of foreign customers is being neglected a bit.  The partly not well maintained o2 hardware (firmware and no english user interface in the o2 Homebox) doesn't make things any better.

Problem why o2 have this „beautiful“ o2 Homespot is, that they need a device what support calling over VoLTE. Sip is not supported for the my home over 4G tariffs.

Hello Joe Doe. I want to thank you for taking the time to read my post and for your response.

Its a bigger problem in Germany that companies such as O2 and many others are neglecting foreign customers. In more recent times Germany has changed more people live in the county of all nationally. Trying to connect with O2 telephone support is AWFUL. The system rellies  the German spoken language first-.  When I try to speak my limited German the system refused to understand my German because I’m English.  It seems the O2 telephone system only supports full Native German. This is unacceptable The problem is Germans expects a top level of German language they say “Sie müssen en Deutsch lernen” Not very new arrival  to Germany speaks top German

The VoLTE. Sip telephony is another big problem totally neglected by O2. It would be great if you could post about the VoLTE. Sip telephony issues.

I've made a tutorial you can change the HomeSpot Interface into English.

@ukguy I and another user had already posted requests for improvement for foreign customers last year.  I really hope that this year what happens at o2

I have read your posts and found them to be excitant special the debate regarding English support. I'm please people like your are speaking out. It remains to be seen how O2 reacts this year. I guess the cost of training German speaking staff  to support in English costs too much. There should be some way of diverting customers to the UK or recruit English speakers who can speak both languages.  English is seen as a minority language here  its not  the second official spoken language unlike other EU countries where English is the second langue  I don't think this will change. German is a complex language  I struggle with, to others its very easy to learn. At the end of the day I guess the cost effective method is to use native Germen which is fair enough considering this is Germany.

@ukguy If someone looking for an VoLTE 4G router, for use his o2 landline number and landline flat, there is only one alternative. TP-Link TL-MR6500v

Will this router work with data tariff ?

What I hate about O2 is “IMEI Ring fencing “  its annoying it stops 99% of other routers being used. !

@ukguy normaly a customer should not need a hotline. Hotline normaly only should need at start of the contact (technican not appears at activations from the dsl line, faulty hardware, line etc.) or for renew/change the contract.
I think 1/3 of the customer from o2 are not native German speaken persons. o2 wastes many opportunities to get or keep even more customers who do not speak German very well or no German at all.

Start with the order process. Only possible online in German and if you go as a foreign person go to an external o2 shop (not original o2 shop) you must every time have fear, that the customer come out with three contracts he don’t need.

@ukguy I can’t say to 100%. One user can use it with the new my home 4G tariff (start at 03.11.2020) I think you have an older Homespot tariff.

We can wait to an o2 moderator. He can tell us or better you what’s up.

That’s has happened English speaking customers have made mistake in buying the correct plan and they have not understood the contract enough. One example is if a English customer goes on to the O2 shop, they place the order there, sign contract there is no 14 day saying good by paper. On online gives the 14 day protection. I’m lucky I married  a German she also is very interested in English language. Its critical to fully understand German as O2 won't be of much help unless one is lucky. Your correct all German companies who deny English speakers are missing out on millions in profit. One good example is I use GROVER to rent products. The Company first language is English , The workers  must have full understanding of English and must speak native German. They have workers from all over the world, They are more then happy to speak, write in English in return I provide them with a lot of money for renting. It works both ways. I know 90% of Germans require  native German langue  which  is to be expected but they don't understand not everyone can speak so well, I can understand both sides of the conversation.
