Not receiving SMS from certain numbers.

I recently ported my number from lycamobile to 02 and I am facing a rather peculiar situation. I am not receiving messages from certain numbers (some online services, normal household numbers) but am receiving SMS from other sources like 02 itself. I am able to send SMS though to those numbers. I was facing the same issue in lycamobile too and that’s why I ported to 02. I have no idea why I am not receiving SMS for some numbers ( I haven’t blocked any number in my app, I reset my phone too and also restarted it multiple times). Please help me fix this issue as I need to access some services and need to get the OTP.

Welcome to the Community @waterbyte. 💙

That sounds stange, that you receive some SMS but others don’t. What Smartphone do you use right now, and did you try to put your SIM-Card into another Smartphone just to test?

Best regards

Steffen

I use Samsung F-41. I don’t have any other phone to test it out but I highly doubt the issue is in my phone. Can you check from your side if there is any limitations from carrier side or something like that. Is it also possible that because my number is from lycamobile, their is something wrong?

Hello @waterbyte,

there are no known issues about text message errors at the moment.

Please check whether the phone number for the text message center is saved correctly in the settings of your mobile phone: +491760000443

Is the message storage full? Then please delete some or all messages.

Best regards

Giulia

Only important for sending not for receiving short messages.

I was facing the same issue in lycamobile too and that’s why I ported to 02. I have no idea why I am not receiving SMS for some numbers

@waterbyte :

That sounds interesting. Did you get help from Lycamobile / Vodafone Germany to solve the problem?

All the SMS that you cannot receive are from abroad?
From a specific country, from a specific area code, from a specific provider? Did you find something in common?

The senders just can't send the SMS to your cell phone? Is it going to other recipients in Germany?

@o2_Giulia Yes, the message center number is correct and message storage isn’t full (I would say a modern smartphone rarely has to deal with message storage being full).

@tearsbeforecrying I asked lycamobile to solve the issue but they couldn’t troubleshoot it. They have a bad reputation so I thought their was some problem with their system/infrastructure itself and that’s why I switched to 02.  The SMS that I cannot receive are from german services and german numbers itself. I even changed my messaging app to one provided by google to remove any possibility that my default messaging app is faulty but that also didn’t help. No number is blocked by my app also. I also tried online services for sending messages to send a message to my number but I don’t receive them.

Have you ever asked people if they get a delivery report? Immediately, later or not at all?

You should test your SIM card in another cell phone. Couldn't you put your SIM in another phone for 2-3 minutes?

Hi @waterbyte thanks for your further posts and tearsbeforecrying thanks for your support. 💙
On this point i would although recommend to test the sim card in another mobilephone. Have you someone who can share his/her phone for some minutes?

kindly regards
Michael

I will try to arrange it. It is not possible immediately but whenever I get the chance I will update this thread. Thanks @tearsbeforecrying @o2_Micha

Hello @waterbyte,

if you did not recieve SMS from special phone numbers for a longer time and also using several mobile provider I think we can be sure-ish this issue is not provider specific.

Testing the SIM card in another phone is a good tip to find out if it is relatied yto your phone or an app on your phone.

I am sure you will find out, I am looking forward to hearing back from you what the solution was :-)

Regards,

Lars
