I have been looking at the current situation regarding 5G expansion in Germany.
In the summer 2019, the networks began rolling out 5G.
On the 3rd of October Telefónica officially inaugurated 5G for private and business customers.
Like its competitors Current 5G Expansion Telefónica - O2 initially only used frequencies in the 3500 MHz range.
As things stand right now Telefónica is lagging its major competitors
It’s frustrating that Telefónica is taking a long time to reach its end users. From what I have read the 5G projects is mostly reserved for industrial customers. Which I understand as Telefónica can make a good return on profit margins in the future.
Its reported O2 customers using the new mobile network find the data speed not quite as fast when they are on the road. The reported maximum speed of 300 Mbps downstream. This is to be expected at such an early stage in the network out building.
O2 has some catching up to do if 5G is to be a real success for its customers.
So far only 15 cities are visible in the O2 network. For example, Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart,
I would be interested to know O2 future plans for 5G in the current financial year.
For those O2 customers using 5G on the Telefonica network it would be interesting to know real time speeds.
Telefónica has made a good start now it’s time to make massive progress so that Telefónica can beat the competition.
I welcome any comments, corrections to my article , feedback from Telefónica - O2 and its customers.
Over to you.
