I have a new router that isnt working.  Tech want to walk me through and i am ok with that except i dont know how to type in the new router code as it is alphanumeric, on the oldfashioned landline keypad. Anyone able to help me out here?  There must be a sort of menu or toggle facility.  I am trying to make this work…. so frustrating as I dont speak enough German (in Berlin) to understand every word!

@Celebrant what is the exactly router name? And I think you have an Smartphone, Tablet or Computer too at home, or not?

Moin Moin,

please help us.

Is the router is connected to the TV connector or to the phone connector.

Is the number a CM-MAC?
is the new router form O2 or your own?

Is it a new router or a used one?

And as @Joe Doe ask what is the model name of the router.

The router is a new o2 Fritz box 6660 cable now in the tv port as it’s cable

the MODEL IS CM MAC

.  The telephone is the old one I had before - a landline that came with the old router. It has alphanumeric keypad. Tech have given me a code that is alphanumeric but I don’t know how to get to the letters correctly to spell out the word they’ve given me.

If you have the FRITZ!Box from O2 than you don’t have to enter the CM-MAC.

If you have the FRITZ!Box new or from „eBay“ than you need a browser to enter the CM-MAC

Not a telephone.

could you tell us the Artikel-Nummer if the FRITZ!Box not rent from O2.

Thank you for trying to help.  Unfortunately nothing will work because the O2 customer service today informed me that the line to my apartment (via cable not dsl) cannot be activated because it is already in use!!!  The line is in use by Vodaphone!!!  This is dreadful - I do not know who previously installed a cable router system and then obviously left the apartment before I became the tenant, and 02 now say they cannot do anything.  I must find out who is using the line!  Is this for real?? I bought a new faster system from 02 because I am a customer and I asked them to check.  They said yes, a cable connection is possible and so I went ahead and the remote switch on was to be 11th March.  I have had no internet since then, and today find out that this cannot even be done!  The new router which is being rented at a much higher amount than my old dsl is now sitting here without any function.  They did say I had to enter a code in the phone (the landline is a part of the system apparently still!) and I was not able to work out how to do that in an old alphanumeric phone which I sent you guys a photo of.  It doesnt really matter now because that phone is also sitting there unable to do anything but interesting the phone LED did at one point say “line in use” ARGHHHHHHHHHH

@Celebrant Sorry this complete nonsense from the o2 hotline or you understand something wrong.

Again: For cable technology you don’t need a phone for activation the router. Only the CM MAC must distribute to o2.

But only free cable router or o2 rented cable router can been activate over the hotline.

  • What is the AVM Art. number on the back from your router?
  • Is the Power LED from the Fritzbox flashing or constant green?

With cable there is no used line. I think you misunderstood the hotline.

First Question: Is this a NEW Router or a used one?

If used = what is the Artikel-Nummer (back on the router, red ring on the pic above).

If from O2 = Just tell us.

Second question: Is the Power LED blinking?

Ok  thanks.
it’s a new brand new router.
the power cable is blinking green

I’ve been with 02 for 10 years using a dsl connection which was too slow. To fix that I purchased a cable connection no problem with no technician needed and just had to cancel my dsl contract before they could accept the new contract.  Did that.
connection planned for 11/3. was told to connect the router 10/3 so it was all set up.  Did that by watching videos
11/3 nothing happened. All day. Then I called customer service - German tech dept. .  They said a ticket had been raised as they could see there was outage.  Nothing could be guaranteed over the weekend either she said. Try Monday. Monday I called and a German technician talked me through these steps

get the landline phone that’s with the router. The old router - unplug everything. Wait times given. Reconnect electrics last then type in a code.  That’s what I could not work out how to do. I can read and write German and am able to speak it conversationally etc but some tech is of course jargon or new vocabulary.

so nothing last night. Write to the community. Thank you for your help.
today there were four calls I made each time getting a different person after I got cut off as they were checking out the situation. They all spoke only English. I’m an English speaker too so I was not misunderstood.  I gave the third person the cm Mac number. She said the line was already being used by vodaphone and hadn’t been closed off. The contract isn’t mine. I’ve never had vodaphone. So the person says well you need to find out who had cable in your apartment before. Because until that’s cancelled your new router can’t be activated. Maybe the landlord knows. I am seriously not making this up or being unable to understand.
Today two different people at English customer service say conflicting accounts- one said yes I see the line is already in use but we can intercept it  then cut off again so I  redial and go through asking to speak to him but an told that’s not possible but I go through it all again with her and she says what I had been told is not true.  The old  dsl is transitioning

With the transition it means that there’s a lag in service.  I ask her to reconnect my dsl. She cuts me off. Then I get emails offering me a free sim testcard.  No solution.

i need a dongle so at least I can plug in and work at home. Any recommendations?

this whole thing is exhausting me. Sorry for the long post but it’s not been a good day!

@Celebrant why you don’t post the AVM Art. from the cable router what we ask you several times?

Oh sorry i thought I’d said several times that  it’s a new router and from O2 directly. So the article number was not needed. Here it is though

2000 2933

Cable Fritz box 6660  - new from 02

With a router from O2 no activation is necessary.

So why am I told  my activation is impossible because either the line is already in use / the dsl is transitioning (depending on which customer service agent is speaking to me). There is no solution being given Just reasons it’s not working - and even these are not consistent.
what else do I do?

We should wait for an O2 Mod. They could check the problem. So we will new what the reale problem is.

The cable socket has three connectors? Or 2 and U are using a 2 to 3 adapter?

The cable Socket is a three holes type and it’s placed in the top middle part exactly as on the manual and the video.  the wlan shows a steady green light. The power/cable always is blinking green.  Connecting my pc by the ethernet also gave me an overview that there was wifi but there was no internet and so I went through the error codes and the solution process for that too. Which was to call the provider.

@Celebrant I am really shocked about the o2 hotline why o2 don’t order a Vodafone technician for you. I think there is a filter installed in the technical supply room in the house for your apartment.

o2 rented only the cable infrastructure from Vodafone. And a possible Vodafone contract can’t blocked your line. For DSL is this correct, not for cable. Cable works with CM-MAC for authorization. Let me explain. You and I live in the same town and the are both o2 or Vodafone cable customer. If our CM-MAC  stored in same cable node (thousands customers are running over this node) I have internet in your apartment with my cable router.

With my DSL router and DSL username/password I can’t do this.

Hello @Celebrant ,

welcome to the o2 Community 💙.

You have already contacted the technical department for your case, which is the correct way. Have you already received their message and tested your hardware accordingly? The colleagues would like you to validate the cable connection to the router, please check that it’s correctly within the sockets on both ends, after that perform a factory reset of the router itself. If the connection is still not working after this then please contact the technical department again to make an appointment for a technician.

Kind regards, Sven

Hi @o2_Sven Thank you. The cables are all in the correct placement for the new router. I’ve checked these placement via manuals and YouTube videos from 02.   The wlan light is green.  The cable/power light is green but blinking all the time. The report I ran said that the wlan was there but that there is no internet. When I clicked on the hyperlink about the internet I read this : „cable internet synchronisation starting (training)“ and the advice was to contact the provider. Which I did 4 times yesterday and got nowhere as you can see Sven. Being cut off constantly by them as they „talk to a colleague „. I have been offered a Testkarte free for 8 days.  I’m calling again regarding the ticket that a and 02 colleague raised.

Hi @Celebrant ,
sorry for late answering.
Were you able to find a solution for your request since your last answer or do you still need further assistance?

best regards
Michael
