Hi, since upgrade of my internet connection, my modem synchronise always at the same speed, below the contracted one. The maximum speed  for download doesn’t go over 190mbit/s. The upload as ou see is synchronising with the contract speed. The table below shows what my router discovers and how it is connected. Is there anything what can be done here ?

  Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (kbps) 42460 204413
Max Rate (kbps) 45852 252135
SNR Margin (dB) 8.7 6.7
Line Attenuation (dB) 0 6.9
Errors (pkts) 0 6

IT seems that there is some hard limit set on my dsl connection, as max rate increased for download and decreased for upload but the and the UP/Downstream is the same after new synchronisation

  Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (kbps) 42460 204413
Max Rate (kbps) 45300 265235
SNR Margin (dB) 8.6 8.8
Line Attenuation (dB) 0 7
Errors (pkts) 0 11

Every day I have different Max, but the current stays the same, it looks like somewhere my internet is assigned to some fixed profile

  Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (kbps) 42460 204413
Max Rate (kbps) 46066 262287
SNR Margin (dB) 9.1 8.1
Line Attenuation (dB) 0 7.1
Errors (pkts) 0 0

What kind of router are U using?

More than 1 phone socket?

TP-link Archer VR2100v

todays sync seems simmilar - so the current rate is fixed at the same level each day

  Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (kbps) 42460 204413
Max Rate (kbps) 45685 256763
SNR Margin (dB) 8.9 9.1
Line Attenuation (dB) 0 7.1
Errors (pkts) 0 2

So next synchronisation and the same current rate - seems my DSL is hard limited. Should I create some ticket regarding this or this is normal speed for the DSL 250/40 ?

  Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (kbps) 42460 204413
Max Rate (kbps) 44630 268631
SNR Margin (dB) 8.6 9
Line Attenuation (dB) 0 7
Errors (pkts) 0 1

TP-Link support have confirmed that there is no limitation set on the router side - ticket number [TKID230850049], and  it's a negotiation between our router and the ISP's equipment.

Can anyone check what is going on here ? or this is normal ?

Line Attenuation (dB) 0 7
Errors (pkts) 0 5

Hello @master-of-disaster ,

in terms of your contract everything looks to be in order, there is nothing there that should cap your speed below the ~250 MBit/s. As such I’d advise you to contact the technical department and have them open up a ticket for you.

Kind regards, Sven

thank you @o2_Sven

so for the others which are wondering

  • it is in the limit of normally delivered speed in contract
  • Telekom have the right to limit this to provide stable line to all users on the same line

Hello @master-of-disaster ,

I assume this was the answer that you received from the technical department? So no direct issue was found and it’s due to other factors like the distance of the line to you being too long that you can’t reach the full speed here?

Kind regards, Sven

I did not hear about distance as an argument - I remember my old Fritzbox was showing 120meters only - so this cannot be long distance.

and yes that is what I heard from technical department - the case about Telekom and theirs right to limit the speed

Hello @master-of-disaster,

Telekom can indeed limit the speed, but this would then be exactly 175 Mbit/s.

In your case, the cause certainly lies somewhere else, e.g. in the length of the line to the nearest main distribution box, as Sven already wrote (unlikely if it is only 120 meters), or in the wiring inside the house. Do you have more than one phone socket in your appartement?

We can also not determine whether the router may be the cause because we cannot support this model, unfortunately.

Best regards

Giulia

ok I understand - then I would like to test it from my side and be sure that this is on my or not on my site

can you then tell me which router should I use - so this will be legit test for you?

I will try to organise this router for tests.

Hello @master-of-disaster,

if you have the possibility to check it with a Fritzbox 7590 or 7590 AX it would be ideal, as it has a lot of diagnosis options.

However, it is not certain that the router is the cause, this is just one of many possibilities.

Outdated house wiring, disruptive electrical devices in the area, and problems with WiFi reception can also be the reason for the lower bandwidth.

Best regards

Giulia

I need some time to organise the router - I will keep you up to date

but if the wiring or electrical devices are causing the issue - should this cause different sync speed each time?

in this case the router is synced every time with the same speed
current :

Line Status: Connected

DSL Up Time: 5 days 3 hours 53 minutes

DSL Modulation Type: VDSL2

Annex Type: Annex B

  Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (kbps) 42460 204413
Max Rate (kbps) 43906 266611
SNR Margin (dB) 8.4 8.7
Line Attenuation (dB) 0 6.9
Errors (pkts) 0 7

Hello @master-of-disaster,

does your router have the possibility to switch to Annex J instead of Annex B?

Annex B is an older standard and not in use anymore. Maybe that could solve your problem already.

Best regards

Giulia

I have decided to not spam here before I will get the frotzbox for test

I have the one with annex J , 7510 model

same synchronisation speed

so where is the problem then if different modems in the longer time period synchronises with the same speed which is not maximum and it is not the limited 175 Mbits/s ?

and second post as I have second foto too :)

any ideas what to check and how to handle this issue ?

@master-of-disaster Up to 280m you should have normal a 250Mbit download sync. The line capacity is about 240Mbit.
Question: How looks the wiring in the open TAE connector box? Can you make one, two good pictures and post it here? Thanks.

Hi, thank you for the answer - just to be clear here you want from ma a photo from the box in my apartment where the modem is connected? or a photo of a box which is somewhere in the basement and I need to contact Hausmeister for this ?

@master-of-disaster Yes from the TAE box (open, the wires visible) in your apartment there you plug in the dsl cable.

I have double checked the cable is not broken there is just paint on it
