I am leaving Germany before the end of my broadline contract. I understand I can ask for an early cancellation by presenting three things: 1) The abmeldung, 2) A proof of new address or work contract, 3) a statement accepting additional fees from O2 for cancelation reasons.

Still, I have found several posts about these and the details are not clear to me. My questions are:

  1. I cannot give you my original copy of the abmeldung. Can I share a copy of it?
  2. I don’t understand why I must share this. It’s my personal data. Can this be avoided? In any case, I’m not sure I could get a certificate in English, let alone German. How do you deal with that?
  3. I have read different versions of this. Some posts have answers saying it’s 1 month. Others, 3 month. How many are they, exactly?

It is good that you have contacted us here, we will certainly find an answer to your questions. 

1. of course you do not have to send us original documents, legible copies are sufficient. 
2. you don't have to publish the data here in the community, you send these documents by post to our customer service in Nuremberg. The language used doesn't matter either, the documents and and your letters can be written in English or German. 
3. it used to be three months in earlier days, now it is only one month after a change in the law.

Yes, my question was answered. I have a follow-up question: Can I do the cancellation via email? I see some forms for other services, but not for DSL.
