Hello so I was finding my wlan super slow then I logged into the router and saw over 40 connections 😞 . I guess it got hacked somehow. I tried changing the passwords but its obvious someone else took control of it. So now its unplugged and I am asking how to I reset this thing so its impenetrable. I am an apple user so I still feel quite safe but I need to make sure the wlan is for my house only. My son uses playstation and I am not sure what might have happened. I am guessing the answer is hardwire it to my computer and choose insanely hard passwords then set it back into the wild? Thanks for any help!

Hello @TerryCruise ,

welcome to the o2 Community 💙.

That’s of course an uncomfortable situation. What modell of router are you using? I’d generally advise a factory reset and then setting the unit up with new passwords.

Kind regards, Sven

Thanks Sven! Its a 7441. Well I tried to do exactly that but when I tried logging in it said someone else was in there. So i keep it offline. Can I set this up hardwired to my laptop or keep it off the network so I can change passwords? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Thanks!

Chris

Hello @TerryCruise ,

once you’ve accessed the router’s GUI you can deactivate the WLAN, alternatively you can also use the button that is on the router itself, by pressing it for a short time you will deactivate all WiFi connections.

Kind regards, Sven

Are you sure? 7441 or 6441?

Ah its a 6441. I hardwired it to the laptop and it seems to work now :D

Near the Power switch is a reset bottom. Press the bottom longer than 45 sec.

Than you have a factory defaul reset.

Don’t forget if you have a iPhone and is MAC Adress privacy is on. Than your iPhone will generate a lot of MAC Adresse!

Hey @TerryCruise,

Glad you could get so many tips here. Can we help you even further 🙂?

Greetings,

Flo
