Contract Termination - moving abroad

Hello,

I am planning to move back to the USA at the end of July and will need to cancel my DSL and phone contract. I will need to use the DSL until I leave Germany. What do I need to do to terminate the contract successfully and continue to use it for the remaining 3 months?

You won’t be able to terminate either until you actually leave Germany. For DSL you need to send in a letter requesting early termination due to a move abroad and indicate the date you intend to leave. You will then need to send in the deregistration document from Germany and proof of permanent residence abroad. You will be charged 3 months’ line rental from the date you move. 

There is no right to terminate the mobile phone contract when you move abroad, but o2 generally agrees to this as a gesture of good will. The same conditions apply as to the DSL contract. You can use this form:
