Can I use my own Cable Modem?

I want to know if I can use my Arris SURFboard SB8200 Docsis3.1 cable modem instead of my FritzBox6660? I don’t like that the FritzBox can’t be changed to bridged mode. I would prefer to setup my own router and home network.

Or if I can’t use that, is there another modem I can locally that doesn’t do WiFi?

Customer devices must comply with the interface description. No third-party devices are tested for compatibility by o2. If you have any questions, please contact the manufacturer of your device.

If you are just asking about Wi-Fi: You don't have to use the Wi-Fi function of the Fritzbox, you can simply switch it off.

If I use my own modem do I need any specific settings or should I be able to plug it in and have it work? Also, do I need to let o2 know the modem MAC address or any other info?

Yes, of course.

Hello @HerrBerg ,

I can only echo what blablup already wrote here. We’ll need the MAC Address of your Router for the provisioning of your cable connection and as long as your hardware follows the few points laid down in the interface description there should be no issue with it.

Kind regards, Sven
