I'm moving out and the new tenant is opening a new contract, do I need to cancel my contract?

Hi everyone,

I recently moved out of my previous apartment and I’m still looking for a new place; currently couchsurfing or Air Bnb-ing. I am NOT leaving Germany, not even changing cities (in Berlin currently).

There is already a new tenant in the new apartment and they’re going to get their own internet contract (still with o2 I believe).

Do I need to do anything about my connection or can the new tenant directly get theirs with no issue?
I don’t mind paying for the time when I am not using the connection, I just don’t want to prevent the new tenant from getting theirs.

Cheers.

Hi @Vivigo

welcome to our community. If you signed a 24 month contract it can’t be cancelled with immediate effect. You will have to keep it until the end. But as long as you have a friend or a family member in Germany you can move the contract to this address without using it. You just have to register a move by our customer support or online and your old address is free to be used by the new tennant. The other possibility is to cancel the contract early by paying the remaining month in a complete amount. It might be a bit expensive.

Unfortunately there is no way to pause the contract for a while until you find a new appartment.

Greetings
