How to - Order a replacement SIM or additional SIM for your postpaid contract

If you’d like to order an extra SIM (Multicard) or a replacement SIM but aren’t sure how to go about it, we’ve put together a guide on how to do so.

Ordering online

Additional SIM / Multicard

You can easily order an additional SIM online through Mein o2 in a browser or the Mein o2 App. The process is very similar for both plattforms.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Log in to your platform of choice and navigate to SIM-Karte verwalten
  2. Choose Ersatz- oder Zusatz-SIM bestellen in the menu selection
  3. Since you want an additional SIM choose Zusätzliche SIM-Karte/eSIM on the selection screen
  4. Choose the SIM-type you’d like (either physical SIM or eSIM) and the number of additional cards you want to order
  5. Confirm with Weiter
  6. On the next screen, check the cost and complete the order with Kostenpflichtig bestellen

Depending on your tariff and the options you have selected, a Multicard may incur monthly charges as well as one-time activation fees. 👉 Please check the terms and conditions of your tariff in advance.

Replacement SIM

The steps for ordering a replacement SIM are fairly similar to ordering an additional SIM, with one important difference.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Log in to your platform of choice and navigate to SIM-Karte verwalten
  2. Choose Ersatz- oder Zusatz-SIM bestellen in the menu selection
  3. Since you want a replacement for a defective or lost SIM choose Ersatz SIM-Karte/eSIM on the selection screen
  4. Choose the SIM-type you’d like (either physical SIM or eSIM)
  5. Confirm with Weiter
  6. On the next screen, check the cost and make sure the SIM card to be replaced is correct, then complete the order with Kostenpflichtig bestellen

A replacement SIM typically costs a one-time fee of 29,99 EUR. There is no charge for a replacement eSIM

Ordering in person

Of course you can order a replacement or additional SIM directly from a person, if you prefer.

Our customer service team will be happy to help you order your new or additional SIM card. Simply contact us via Live Chat or our hotline. Our English-speaking hotline will also be happy to assist you.

O2 Shop

Of course, you can also get a new or additional SIM card at one of our shops. The advantage: our shop staff will hand you the card, already activated, so you can use it straight away. You also pay directly in the shop.

SIM activation

Your new or additional SIM arrived? Amazing, then it’s time to activate it.

Physical plastic-SIM

The physical SIM card will be sent to your home address in a few days. As soon as it arrives, you can activate it online via Mein o2.

eSIM

When you order an eSIM, you will receive an email containing a link.

💡 To complete the installation right away, you must have another active SIM card registered to the same customer number that can receive text messages. Otherwise, a QR code will be sent by post.

Step-by-step

  1. Click the link in the mail you received after ordering your new or additional eSIM
  2. Choose the number you want the security code sent to / Alternatively choose the option to have the QR Code sent by post and continue with step 4 once the letter arrives
  3. The QR code will be shown after successfully entering the security code
  4. Scan the QR code using the smartphone on which you want to use the eSIM
  5. Follow the instructions shown on your phone
  6. After installing the eSIM on your phone, follow the instructions in Mein o2 or your Mein o2 App and restart your phone
