Hi,
I moved to UK in May 2018. I was an O2 customer since 2013. My contract was automatically extended twice for which I had no idea during that time and still did bear with it. Last year, I took a DSL connection and in the mean time it gets activated, I was told I will be given a free SIM till then to browse internet and later it was made as a contract and kept charging me.
I realized all this recently after moving to UK when I was charged twice a month.
So in total I paid 3 bills having used only 2 all time.
Frustrated with all this, I contacted O2 several times over phone, internet, chat, email no one gave me straight answer.
Finally I was able to raise a complaint and I got an email several days later saying out of good will they will cancel the contracts to an earlier date. I sent the documents, kept charging me with bills. I contacted the Kundenbetreuung several times and each time I get a different answer and again they ask me to send me deregistration certificate etc..,
I never received a deregistration certificate from Germany at my UK address.
I sent by post a long letter explaning all this and sent my UK house contract, my visa, my residence permit copy etc..,
Yet I didn't receive any confirmation of cancellation.
I received an email saying final invoice after I sent my documents. I assumed that was the final bill, got a reminder today again. Paid the bill amount.
Instead of getting a final settlement email, I got an other email saying I have to pay 200 odd euros.
I am really frustrated with all this and losing all my time. And on top of that , I paid already for all that I didn't use since an year and now more complications.
I really hope this issue gets solved atleast here.

Hi @bsprathyusha ,
thanks a lot for your message.
I really like to help you.
As you were informed already several times by e-mail, we need the following documents from you:
If you do not have a deregistration certificate, please demand this document from the foreign office of the city where you lived in Germany before.
Without this document, we only can cancel your mobile phone contract to the 31st March 2019.
I hope that you manage to get the deregistration certificate still.
Loving greetings,
Tobias

See I applied for the deregistration certificate and I didn't received to my UK address. I don't have a contact in Germany who can do that for me. I only have a copy of the application I made to deregister myself from Germany. I don't have anything more than that.
But I did everything to prove and as well sent everything to prove that I am staying in UK. I don't even have a visa to enter Germany..
Please understand. I talked over phone several times to O2 people and they told me that I can submit alternative proof.
You should also understand the agony of the customer and the trouble O2 is causing when someone leaves the country. Moreover I am in one of the toughest professions doing research, getting constant emails even after doing everything right is not appreciable.
Your FAX doesn't work at times. I sent all the documents by post and also got signature tracking done.. No one is paying me for all this.. On top of it, I am getting charged for everything.
When the contract was extended without my notice, I told them I will be leaving the country and I don't need a contract extended. I was told when you leave the country, definitely we will not charge you and we will help you.
I heard from several people and always had this nightmare that O2 might cause trouble and will charge money even after leaving Germany and my fear came true..
Please understand the pain of a charging a student.

Even students have to abide by contracts. Proof that you are living in the UK is not proof that you have permanently left Germany which is a requirement for ending your contract early.

Then you will need to request the deregistration document.

It's not trouble it is a contract. You would like o2 to let you out of the contract early as a gesture of good will and o2 are prepared to do this, but you need to follow the rules. That might seem unreasonable and I can fully understand that it is annoying having to deal with this, but at the end of the day you have to bear in mind that you want something that you are not actually entitled to.

Hi @bsprathyusha ,
@bs0 explained everything perfectly.
There is no way around. Without the deregistration certficate, we only can end your contract to the end of your 24 month duration.
I regret that I have no other solution for you.
Loving greetings,
Tobias
