Cancellation of Contract - DSL (Youth Package)

Qazi
Besucher:in
Hello, I got an O2 Contract in September 2014. Now I am moving to a student apartment so I have to cancel this contract. I want to cancel from 1st September 2015. I tried to cancel from the online portal but it does not let me cancel before 2016. I know a letter needs to be sent to O2 headquarters but due to strike of DHL, the letter might not reach in time. Kindly advise me on what to do in this situation.

Thanks.

Hi,

if you won´t send a letter you can send the cancel with a Fax, but do not forgett to sign. The Fax-number you can get from the chat.

Excuse my bad english.

Greetz :-)

Dear  Jogi,

Thank you for the useful reply. I will send fax today. Do you know anything about which documents I need to attach or only a signed fax is ok?

P.S Your english is much better than my German. Thank you!

You are moving within Germany and o2 cannot provide you with DHL at your new address? This is the reason you can cancel your contract early, but you will first need to inform o2 that you are moving and send them proof (registration at your new address). If o2 confirms that they cannot provide the service at your new address you can then cancel the contract early by paying 3 months line rental.

Since I am moving to a student apartment, the rent is all inclusive and also includes internet connection. This is why I must cancel my contract. My contract at the new apartment will come in a few days therefore I just sent them a signed termination notice now.

OK, but just be aware that if o2 can provide the current service in your new student apartment, the termination might be rejected, even if you don't need it. I assume you included the new address in your termination notice?

Dear Qazi,

if O2 can provide you with DSL there, you can't cancel the contract extraordinary. I guess the online portal is right here and you must fulfill your contract until September 2016.

I can understand your situation, it's bad ... you don't need DSL twice, of course ... but contract is contract.

Sincerely,

Stenzel

Stenzel, the online portal only ever gives the date the contract regularly ends. What's important is whether o2 can provide the service at the new address.

How can I check if O2 is available at that location?

I have checked and O2 is available at this new location. I have a feeling this will be a long dragged out problem for me.

Dear Qazi,

"pacta sunt servanda" ... or agreements must be kept. You shouldn't make a 24 months contract, if you plan to move to a student apartment. There was the option to make a 1 month contract, which can be cancelled very fast.

Sincerely,

Stenzel

Hi,

this is realy a bad situation for you. You can test to cancel the contract by a signed fax, there are no documents need, but i think stenzel and bs0 are right. Another opinion is if there are somone who take your current appartment he/she/them maybe can also take your contract.

Of course I see my mistake here as well. I'll try to get this problem solved by talking to O2 and also the housing company. If O2 must receive their €25 from students every month, even if they are not using the internet, to keep their business running, I will gladly pay.

One thing I am wondering is that the housing company will not disconnect their internet so O2 might not be able to connect theirs on the same address despite coverage. I am not sure how this is going to work out.

Dear Qazi,

it's technically possible to have 2x DSL at one adress, it really works. They don't need to disconnect their internet, O2 can deliver nevertheless.

Sincerely,

Stenzel

Well then I guess I am stuck paying for internet I do not need. I'll still pursue a case with O2 and see what they say about this.
