How to obtain a PIN for DSL access on my new line?

Hello

I got my O2 DSL connected today at my home but I do not have a PIN to put into my homebox2 6641 router (factory reset). Without it I seemingly cannot access the internet! There was no mention of this before and I don't have any letters/emails containing the PIN.  Sorry, I do not speak German very well. How can I get O2 to provide me with the  PIN for my line that will work on my router so I can use the service I'm paying for?

Moin Moin,

if you get the homebox from O2 there should be a letter with the pin for the homebox.

Normally there should be a copy of the letter in Mein O2. You could find it in [ Meine Briefe von O2 ] on the right site "Vertragsinformationen" there should be an PDF:

SIP Zugangsdaten vom XX.XX.20XX
If you don't get the homebox from O2 you will never get a pin for this homebox (the are only for rent).

Or call the hotline o2 Hotline & Chat – Alle Infos zu Kundenservice & Kontakt

Thanks for your reply and advice schluej.

I don't have any letters from O2 online either. The only data in my account is the tariff I am on. I've been reading these forums and it seems some people have got a PIN for second hand routers using the hotline.

eg. https://hilfe.o2online.de/thread/185791-internet-not-working-o2-homebox-6641-pin

O2 do not say anywhere that O2 homebox routers require a PIN before you can use the internet with them. Or that second hand routers can not be used. When ordering the DSL they just give you the option not to order a router if you already have compatible hardware.

I didn't want to pay one up monthly from O2 as it seems like a way to keep you under contract for a long time and the whole point of me choosing O2 was to avoid being tied to the DSL for 24 months and to have the option to terminate with 4 weeks notice.

Perhaps someone from O2 can shed some light on this?

Sorry ahopkins,

i am an idiot and you are absolutely right.

I always thought whoever rented something must give it back.

I'm so stupid. Please excuse the wrong advice.

@o2_Giulia could you please help @ahopkins‌?

He as an O2 homebox bought from the internet and he is requesting the pin to setup your O2 homebox.

Is the sarcasm really necessary? It could very well be the wrong advice. Try explaining the post I linked to then.

https://hilfe.o2online.de/message/1201704-dsl-zugangs-pin-10-digits

Yeah I read that one too but you can not explain the post I linked to. There is conflicting information on this subject.

That seemed like a helpful gesture but why did you mention and ask an O2 moderator that last logged in October 9, 2016 ?

Very strange.

A mystery that will keep us busy for a long time. Why did I do that?

Take a look here @ ahopkins am 31.07.2018 13:08.😜

There doesn't seem to be any other way to get an answer from O2 apart from these forums. Are there any official O2 people reading this who can clarify or is it just the pet troll?

Hello Larissa

Thank you for your reply. I have now added the telephone number to my profile here.

OK, so I finally found the correct PIN number for the router on a page in the Mein O2 dashboard. I was correct in assuming that the advice given by @schluej‌ and in other posts here was wrong.

For anyone else who has this problem you can obtain your 10 digit VoIP PIN by browsing to: Tarif & Optionen > Vertrag Verwalten tab in Mein O2. Then select 'Zugangsdaten für Ihren DSL-Router' and all the info you need for your router is there.

Hey @ahopkins, I know this is an old post, but I just wanted to clarify what I've just read. You CAN activate and use a second-hand Homebox, correct?
