How long it takes to activate my home internet?


I have subscribed in in September and my activation date was in the 5th of October. The technician came, after he finished his job, he told me that the internet will not work today. It will work in two or three days. I thought the activation date means the day when the internet will work.

The activation process is different for DSL connections and for cable/DOCSIS connections, i.e. depending on which connection you have ordered.

I have just got an email from o2. Telling me this!!!

Dear O2 customer,

 On October 5th, 2021, a technician commissioned by us should install your internet and landline connection.  Unfortunately, according to our information, this appointment could not take place.

 Please call us as soon as possible on 089 78 79 79 400 to make a new appointment. 

I have tried to call this number a lot, but no answer.

am 05.10.2021 sollte ein von uns beauftragter Techniker Ihren Internet- und Festnetzanschluss installieren. Dieser Termin konnte nach unseren Informationen leider nicht stattfinden.

The o2 hotline uses an IVR system that automatically answers every single call. I am not aware of any failure of the system.

It seems that the IVR system works perfectly. Currently, I am waiting on the hold for 40 min, for the 5th time, and still no human answers.

I have tried both and I am still trying. English service puts me on hold forever and German service tells me to try again later. The online chat is bugged, whenever I press login it takes me back to the login page.

Someone answered, after 4 hours of trying with the English, German, and Chat. One of the English Hotline service answered and switched me to the technical department. Then, they have made a new appointment in 10 days 😞. I will try to call the customer service again later today, because a technician will visit my neighbor tomorrow who lives in the same building where I lives. So, why not he activate my internet as well with my neighbor as long as he will be here, instead of visiting the same building in two different dates.

I know sounds strange for you as a customer, but these are two different DSL Orders with nothing in common, so its not possible, the tec guy has a straight order to active your neighbors DSL, but he is not allowed to lay hand on your DSL Port at your home only because he around in your neighborhood 

I'm sorry, in that case I can only ask for your patience and to wait for the new appointment in nine days

Guess what, they have sort it out. They sent me a message saying that my activation appointment is on 7th of October. After waiting the technician from 8am till 3pm, he called me but he was in a different city. They have gave him a wrong address. I don't know if this is the system's mistake or an individual mistake, but what I really know that I regret everything. This is a chaos, and the worst experience in my whole life of getting an internet service. It is not that complicated. I am doing a master studies and this issue is really pushing me down in my studies process. By the way no technician visited my neighbor also.

Hello @Jemy,

as of today we still have no other information regarding the activation date. If the local provides decided to try to activate to an earlier date that would of course be a pleasant surprise, I am nevertheless sorry to hear that the technician did not appear to the date that he informed you he would be there :-/

Why this comment is marked as a solution. There is no solution there, and my problem did not solve yet. 

I am feeling that I am getting scammed. When someone subscribe for a specific service and he/she never gets this service. I have subscribed in 10th of September, then my order confirmation was in 16th of September. My activation date was on 5th of October. But due to unknown reasons the technician couldn't activate the internet. Then O2 gave me a new appointment after 10 from the first activation date. That appointment was yesterday and no-one showed up. I have missed a very important UNISCO conference yesterday, because of that appointment. I have spent a lot of money on the mobile data. This is really causing a depression to me. Is it that much complicated to provide someone with internet connection, here.

@Jemy Did you have a mobile contract at o2. The service from o2 can you book free data package on an o2 mobile.

And at what town you live. Hope not Berlin or Hamburg.

In Detmold. I went to O2 shop branch, and I have them if I can buy any sim card with unlimited internet data. So, I will be able to use utill my home internet gets activated. He offered me something called test card, it is for free and have unlimited internet for one month only.

Of course, I have done. That but all they can do is giving me a new appointment which will be after 2 weeks. Same story every time. Since 10th of September to 27th of October. I have completely lost my faith in getting my internet activated and I am looking for other options. Because I don't believe that the technician will show up after two weeks and even he showed up he might will not activate it like first time. 

My neighbor’s new appointment was yesterday, and the same scenario happened with him. Everyone here in the building has internet except us. Is it because we come from a different race or it is really complicated to activate someone’s internet.

The thing is that I am not expecting any positive results. I have been through this experience before and nothing guarantees that my internet will be activated. This is my fourth appointment. What will happen if he did not show up again?! you are gonna ask me to make a new appointment “infinity loop”.

What ?! really after the fourth attempt. O2 leaves its customer till he reaches the 4th attempt, this is how you care about your costumers. O2 leaves its customer for more than 60 days without doing anything. Excuse me, but O2 is missing a lot in the business of customer service. Mentioning the customer service mostly when I phone call the O2 customer service especially the German number when they answer they don't introduce themselves. This confuses me it feels like you have called the wrong number. When someone just answers with Hello !!! and kept silent.

@Jemy You know that o2 rent the lines from the German Telekom. o2 try the best to get dsl running. But the last mile is the property from the German Telekom and only their technicians have the allowance to connect the line.

Yes, I know. That’s why I wish if O2 do something because it would bring a bad reputation to O2 service.

I understand that you like to get your DSL-contract activated as soon as possible. 

Therefore, please wait for the appointment of the technician on 27th October. 

If your DSL-contract should not work after the appointment, just contact our DSL-hotline again. 

We will certainly not leave you alone.
