DSL activation failed - mein o2 not active - Setting up an Asus AC750

Hi,

The o2 technicians came last Friday to set up DSL, they did so and left saying everything should work. Since I'm using my own router, I'm supposed to go to mein O2 and use the user name and password I received in the letter they sent me. However, the data have passed and the 'Tarif und Optionen' menu item (where I should type in the username and password) is not active, it's in grey and I cannot click it.

The WhatsApp chat help offered to put me in contact with a helpdesk person, but it didn't and I can't reach anyone over the phone. What should I do?

Best,

Edit o2_Lars: Expanded the title to show also the router you are using

What router do you use?

Please clarify what exactly is your problem:

  1. no DSL connection
  2. no PPPoE connection
  3. no access to “Mein o2”

The SIP data in “Mein o2” is only necessary for IP telephony if you don’t use an AVM Fritz or o2 Homebox.

For internet you just need the line credentials you received with the o2 welcome letter. The user name should end with @s93.bbi-o2.de

Make sure your router supports VDSL vectoring and you use VLAN-ID=7 for the WAN PPPoE connection and the line credentials you received in the o2 welcome letter.

DSL Welcome Letter- a short explanation

Thanks for the reply! I have a username ending in @s92.bbi-o2.de and a password.

My router is an Asus ac750, it's vdsl compatible and supports annex b aaaand functions as a modem too, so I think it should be good.

Even if I enter my credentials, the router says 'DSL link status: initializing' for a few minutes and then it switches to 'DSL link status: link down'

The routers setup wizard fails (gives the messages above), and if I try to do the setup manually, there are lots of parameters I'm not sure about.

The options the router offers for VDSL are the following:

  • Transfer mode=VDSL WAN (PTM)
  • Service unit=service 1(default)
  • Enable wan transfer mode? = Yes
  • WAN connection type= Automatic IP
  • IP version = IPv4/IPv6
  • Enable UPnP=yes
  • 802.1Q enable?= Yes
  • VLAN ID= 7
  • 802.1P=0
  • 802.1X authentication enable?=no
  • EAP identity= …
  • EAP method= EAP-TLS
  • MTU=1492
  • IPv4 connect to DNS server automatically?=yes
  • IPv4 enable NAT=yes
  • IPv6 DHCP=DHCP
  • IPv6 DHCP PD=enable
  • MLD proxy=disable
  • Special requirement from ISP, host name=…, MAC address=…

Do you have any suggestions with these?

Thank you

Your connection is an ADSL2+ Annex-J. Make sure you set your modem properly and your device uses the latest firmware from ASUS. If necessary, contact ASUS support.

btw: There is no ASUS device with the model number AC750.

Buy a fritzbox 7590.

I set DSL modulation to ADSL2+ and annex mode to B/J, but it still doesn't work. It says 'initializing' for a while and then 'DSL link down'.

These are the WAN settings now:

  • WAN transfer mode=ADSL WAN (ATM)
  • PVC unit=PVC 1(default route)
  • Enable?=yes
  • PVC settings, VPI=0
  • VCI=33
  • Service category=UBR
  • PCR=0
  • WAN connection type=PPPoA/PPPoE
  • IP version=IPv4/IPv6
  • Enable UPnP=yes
  • 802.1Q=yes
  • VLAN ID=7
  • 802.1P=0
  • IP universal settings, encapsulation mode=PPPoE LLC
  • MTU=1492
  • PPP user name=****@s92.bbi-o2.de
  • Password=****
  • PPP authentication=Auto
  • Internet detection=echo

This is the router I use: https://www.asus.com/Networking/DSL-AC750/

Any suggestions?

You set wrong values for VPI/VCI.

VPI=1 VCI=32

You already use firmware version 1.1.2.3_805 from 2020/01/09?

I set the VPI/VCI and it still doesn't work. The firmware is 1.1.2.3_394 - do you think that's the problem?

If I reboot the router (after saving the new parameters), it restarts and says this:

(Sorry about the image quality, I can only wire from my phone and I just took a picture)

Buy a fritzbox 7590.

That might solve the problem, but as far as I see, it should work with my router too if I knew the right parameters. I'd prefer to be able to set it up rather than spending 200 EUR on a new router

I don’t think the old firmware is the reason, but I suggest to update.

Make sure that your DSL router is properly connected to the frist TAE socket in your flat. The DSL connector on the router is usually grey.

If it still does not work and you are sure that your router is not the cause, you should contact the o2 fault hotline. It is possible that the provision of your connection was not successful and a new technical appointment is necessary. If you don’t speak German ask a German speaking friend to help you.

@m.balintdid you have a chance to check your Hardware by a friend?Only that you get a (V)DSL Sync.

Did you even check the handbook?

ATM is ADSL Connection, you have to set it to PTM VSDL Connection.

Ist das 16 Mbit ADSL?

ich hatte mit 92 auch vdsl

Sicher? Wann war das denn? Bisher war Telekom VDSL immer s93 und Telekom ADSL s92. Und mit VDSL-Einstellung hatte es der TE ja bereits erfolglos probiert.

Hello @m.balint and welcome to our o2 community :-)

Setting up a router for a new DSL connection may be a challenge from time to time. I am glad that ozur community members @blablup and @Joe Doe already gave some helpful tipps to resolve your issue.

What does it loook like now? Is your DSL connection working as it should? Or are there still some issues left where we might help you with?

Regards,

Lars

Hi Lars,

Thanks for the welcome, I’m really grateful for all of you for trying to help.

In the meantime yesterday I got an email and text message fro o2 that my DSL connection has been activated - I guess this means that no matter how hard I tried, there was no way I could have made it work since it was inactive (to my excuse, o2 says that normally the activation takes up to 2 hours after the technician’s visit so I assumed it was already done last week).

I tried again from the start - I did a factory reset on my router, connected it to the DSL port in my wall and off we go. The router boots, starts configuring itself and correctly identifies that the server on the other end is an ADSL server - this should mean that the DSL connection is indeed working. Next the router asks for my country and ISP, I select Germany and o2, and the router configures ADSL, plus the correct values VPI=1 VCI=32. It then asks for my login credentials, I type in the user+password I got in mail (****@s92.bbi-o2.de), but it still doesn’t work. Everything seems fine, but the router says ‘initializing’ for a while and then ‘DSL link down’.

The setup is 802.1Q=disabled, and VLAN ID and 802.1P are set to 0, but if I understand right, VLAN ID should be 7 for VDSL connections, and mine is ADSL. However, I tried enabling 802.1Q and setting VLAN ID to 7, but that didn’t help either.

I also did a firmware update, but that didn’t solve it. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Balint

VLAN-ID=7 is required both for ADSL and VDSL connections.

For ASUS and TP-Link the first step is a firmware update.

Recommended:  Version 1.1.2.3_805  (for Germany, no foreign version)

Then check step-by-step

VDSL-Cable (maybe the problem with “not connected”-error)

correct interface : ADSL instead cable(ethernet) etc.

Check Modem at another DSL-line to avoid  line error (Verschaltung)

Only with SYNC-signal you can start to configure

Hello @m.balint,

testing the router on another DSL connection that is working would be a good test to see if it is something with the device. Or if you have the possibility to test another working router on your connection this would also help to reduce the number of possible reasons why the conenction is not working.

The connection runs from the router directly to the TAE wallplug (and there is only one TAE?), without any extensions or additional hardware like a splitter, right?

Lars

Hello @m.balint,

we did not recive any feedback for quite some time. Can we assume that your DSL connection is now up and running? Feel free to share the solution for this so that other people with the same question know what to do in cases like this :-)

Regards,

Lars

Hello,

I found this discussion useful, thank you fir sharing, however it has not resolved my problem 😒

I had image DSL activated on Friday 24 April 2020 but my modem (ASUS DSL-AC55U) doesn't find the connection. I checked all the settings as described above and still no solution.

Any suggestions @o2_Lars ?

Many thanks,

Tom

Hello @TommekM,

sorry for my late reply. Does the probelm still exist? If yes, please contact our technical support. Our DSL help app can also assist you with connection problems. It can also be switched to English language.

Kind regards

Giulia

Hello Giulia,

Many thanks for your reply. The issue is now resolved. It was a problem with the modem - correct Annex configuration was not enabled on it so had to replace the modem.

All the best,

Tom
