Router has no range

Hello O2 community,

The O2 router that I received with my connection a Homebox 6741 cannot take more than 3 devices at a time and also does not reach one room to another just 3-5 meters away. I don't know who to contact in this regard and since I am new here I cannot speak very good German to explain it to the customer care on hotline. Could please any one help me with this?

Thank you.

The Homebox is not the best WLAN router.

You can buy a WLAN access point (AP) and connect the AP via networkkabel.

Or You buy a e.g. Fritzbox 7530.

What you could try is…

  • change position high position, free view for the router.
  • change the channels dont use the auto channel funktion
  • change the name for the 5Ghz channel so that 5 Ghz devices connect only to the 5Ghz network.

Thank you for the suggestions, I did try these but haven’t been successful in getting better results. But just three devices not being able to be supported is ridiculous for any WLAN. Is it a common problem among the Homebox that O2 provides or only mine?

I have 3 laptops/PC and 3 smartphones connected to the o2 Homebox 6641 in a 90m² flat. Works normal.

Maybe you can explain what you mean exactly with “cannot take more than 3 devices at a time”.

That is what surprises me as I asked my friends with same connections they had no issues. In my case if more than 3 devices are connected randomly one of them says no internet connection but it is still connected to the router.

And my apartment is less than 60 sqm but it still has issues with signal strength from homebox whichever direction or height I place it in.

When you have problems with signal strength make sure that you use the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. But as you state your devices are still connected, for me it doesn’t seem to be a signal strength problem.

Make sure that you choose a wi-fi channel that is not used by other users/devices in your neighbourhood. The o2 Hilfe App can help you find a suitable channel.

If the available bandwidth of the DSL connection is exhausted by your 3 devices, the problem is not on the router either.

I will try this but also to update on the signal strength I have just about 1 bar to 2 bars on wifi signal.

Thank you for the follow up blablup!

That indicates that your landline sucks, call Störungsstelle to get it fixed.

I had no internet within 30 days of getting this internet connection. Then a technician came around and fixed some issue there. I really don’t know what to do here in this situation.

Hi@MadJa

Additionally you should try to perform a full router factory reset und reinstall the routerYou will find the reset button on the back of your modem. It is labelled with “Reset”. Press and hold the reset button with a pen for about 10 seconds. Release the reset button. Your o2 HomeBox is ready to be used again as soon as the Power-LED is on permanently. To set up your modem again: Connect your PC/Laptop with the modem via LAN-cable or via WiFi. Enter o2.box in your browser's address bar and follow the "Einrichtungsassistent" (setup assistant). You have to enter the 10 digit pin here, that we sent you with the order confirmation. Please note that the Wifi password will also be reset. You find the original Wifi password on the sticker under the modem.

If that wont work you could try a to change your hardware. For additional 2 Euros per month you will get a Fritzbox 7490.

I just checked you DSL Port via our monitoring tools, your landline itself looks fine (good performance and no disconnects).

Hello Matz,

I tried all the suggestions made and still not good enough. How do I go about getting a new box?

Thank you

Hi Madja.

We can sent you a Fritzbox 7490 , it is rented hardware which you have to return when canceling the contract.

At the moment you are using the o2 Homebox for 1,99 Euro per month, the Fritzbox costs 3,99 Euro per month.

and a one time activation fee of 49,99 Euro and 9,99 Euro Shipping Costs or as  @schluej suggested you could

buy your own hardware for ex the AVM 7530 via amazon or other webshops and return the homebox to us.
