Early Contract Termination

Dear Customer Service,

I have a contract (O2 Blue Basic) till 13.10.2018, but I am leaving Germany by the end of March 2017. Therefore, I would like to terminate my contract by March 2017. I would like to ask how could I proceed to the cancellation of my contract and which documents should I prepare?

Thank you.

Hello eugenie,

when you leave Germany because of moving abroad you can use the form that I have attached to my answer here (English cancellation). You have to fill that out, and hand it in together with the

- deregistration paper of your place of residence here in Germany

- a registration form of your place of residence abroad or a confirmation of your new employee

- letter of agreement that o2 is allowed to charge 3 monthly basic fees as a replacement

When you send this all to the company the department for cancellations will work on that.

Please keep in mind that it won't be done until March. Often it takes longer.

And keep in mind that you have to leave your bank account open until it's done, or you transfer the money by yourself from abroad when you've received an invoice.

What I mentioned above now is only for mobile contracts.

If you have a DSL contract it's a little different.

Kind regards,

Jessica

Hi Jessica,

Thank you for your kind reply. I only have the mobile contract.

I still have some questions, concerning:

1. a registration form of your place of residence abroad or a confirmation of your new employee :

Since I am going home and I haven't got a job yet, I am wondering if I could provide the air ticket for this requirement.

2. I am wondering how much does it normally cost for "3 monthly basic fees". Is it depend on my mobile monthly basic tarif?

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Eugenie

Hello eugenie,

no, the flight tickets won't be accepted. It has to be a confirmation or a registration paper.

Yes, the 3 monthly basic fees depend on your basic tarif.

Kind regards,

Jessica ☺️

Hi Jessica,

In Malaysia and as a Malaysia citizen, we do not have to de-registered when we study or work abroad and therefore, there is also no registration is needed when we go back M'sia. Hence, I have no clue now what kind of paper I can provide. We do have Identity Card with name and address on it but no date. So, is there any other possible alternatives?

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Eugenie

Hi eugenie,

you must have a confirmation for your apartment or room you rent in Germany. When you come to Germany as a foreigner (for studying or working) you need a registration from Registry office (Bürgerbüro) in your city. They will give you a de-registration now.

And the place where you will live in Malaysia, is this your own apartment? Do you have a residential lease agreement? Does it belong to your family?

Regards,

Zampano

Hi Zampano,

Yes, I already got the de-registration paper from Buergeramt.

I just still do not have the registration proof for my new residential place. Therefore, I still could not send out my application.

I do not have a residential lease agreement in Malaysia, as I live with my aunts since I was a child and they own the house.

Hi eugenie,

sorry for answering so late but I forgot it ☹️

So, if I were you, I would hand in:

- the de-registeration from Bürgeramt

- the certificate of the university that you finished your studies in Germany

- a copy of your Passport (where hopefully the address is given where you are planning to live)

- and (if possible) a short letter which explains that it is the house your aunt owns

I cannot see that o2 won't accept this.

Regards,

Z.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I have already sent the following documents to O2 around the end of February:

1. Letter of agreement (for 3 monthly basic fees)

2. De-registration proof from Buergerarmt

3. Flight ticket

4. A letter that states the reason that I can't provide the proof of living place in my home country.

I haven't heard anything from O2 yet.  I wonder that how long would it take for this process. And how could I confirm that I have successfully terminated my contract?

Thank you.
